Bayero University, Kano (BUK) has celebrated and honored Professor Salisu Shehu following his appointment as the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC). The event, organized by the university, recognized Shehu’s extensive contributions to education, research, and societal development.

Professor Salisu Shehu, a renowned scholar in Educational Psychology, was born in 1966 in Tafawa Balewa, Bauchi State. He holds degrees from BUK and earned his PhD from Usman Danfodiyo University, Sokoto. His academic journey began at the Federal College of Education (Technical) Gombe before he joined BUK in 1994, where he has served in various capacities, including Level Coordinator and as a member of multiple university committees.

Beyond academia, Shehu has played a vital role in the establishment of private universities in Nigeria. He was instrumental in the planning and implementation of Al-Istiqama University, Sumaila, and Al-Ansar University, Maiduguri, where he also serves on the Board of Trustees. His leadership experience includes serving as the Vice-Chancellor of Al-Istiqama University and as Special Adviser to the Bauchi State Governor on Education and Societal Re-Orientation.

His influence extends to significant national and international bodies. Shehu has held key positions, including Deputy Secretary General of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs and Executive Secretary of the Islamic Forum of Nigeria. His research interests cover Educational Psychology, Islamic Education, Peace Education, and Social Justice, and he remains an active member of professional bodies such as the International Society for Teacher Education and the Nigerian Society for Educational Psychologists.

Additionally, Shehu contributes to societal development through his involvement in the Nigerian/ECOWAS Ulama Mediation Committee, further highlighting his dedication to integrating education with governance and social reform.
