LASU Inaugurates 37th LASUSU Leadership, Charges New Executives on Responsible Unionism
Lagos State University, LASU, has inaugurated the 37th Lagos State University Students’ Union, LASUSU, Executive Council and Students’ Parliamentary Council, SPC, with a charge to the new leadership to embrace responsible unionism, protect students’ interests, and work collaboratively with University Management to sustain peace and stability on campus.
The swearing-in ceremony was held on Thursday, 27th August 2026, at the Femi Gbajabiamila Conference Hall, Main Campus, Ojo.
The new leadership is led by Comrade Rufai Akanni Obipehin as LASUSU President and Honourable AbdulRahman Temidayo Imam as Speaker of the Students’ Parliamentary Council. Other members of the Executive Council and Parliament also took the oath of office.
Congratulating the newly inaugurated leaders, the Vice-Chancellor, Distinguished Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, mni, NPOM, urged them to justify the confidence reposed in them by the student body through maturity, patience, and sound judgement in handling issues.
She stressed that effective student unionism should complement the efforts of the University Management, promote constructive engagement, and serve as a reliable channel of communication between the University and its students.
Professor Olatunji-Bello further charged the new administration to prioritize student welfare and support the University’s efforts to combat indecent dressing, cultism, and all forms of sexual and gender-based violence. She emphasized the need for a collective commitment to creating a safe, respectful, and conducive environment where students can pursue their academic goals without fear.

The Vice-Chancellor expressed optimism that the new administration would make a positive impact during its tenure, and urged the leaders to uphold the values of responsible leadership and place the overall interests of the University above personal considerations.
She also commended the immediate past LASUSU executives and parliamentarians, led by Comrade Adebayo Peter Kayode, APK, for their service and successful tenure. She encouraged the new administration to build on their achievements and further strengthen the relationship between the student body and University Management.
The inauguration marks the beginning of a new chapter in LASUSU’s leadership, as the newly sworn-in executives and parliamentarians assume responsibility for representing students and contributing to the growth and development of Lagos State University.
