BUK Inducts 51 Doctors of Pharmacy; Maryam Abubakar Sulaiman Named Best Graduand with 4.84 CGPA
Bayero University, Kano (BUK) reached a significant academic milestone on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, as it inducted 51 new Doctors of Pharmacy (PharmD) during its third induction and oath-taking ceremony for the 2023/2024 session.
The event, held at the Mahmud Tukur Theatre, Old Campus, saw Pharm. Maryam Abubakar Sulaiman emerge as the overall best graduating student, achieving a remarkable Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 4.84.
The Pharmaceutical Council of Nigeria (PCN), represented by Professor Olabisi Obisesan, administered the Oath of Allegiance. Professor Obisesan charged the new inductees to uphold the highest professional ethics and urged them to immediately prepare for their compulsory internships at PCN-accredited centers across the federation.
Speaking on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Haruna Musa, fsi, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Development), Professor Amina Mustapha, described the ceremony as a defining moment. Addressing the theme, “Innovative Access to Medicines: The Role of Advanced Logistics and Technology in Modern Pharmacy Practice,” the Vice-Chancellor emphasized that the future of the profession lies in digital integration.
“Modern pharmacy practice now relies heavily on digital technologies, data analytics, and efficient supply-chain systems to ensure safe, timely, and affordable access to medicines,” the Vice-Chancellor stated.
The keynote speaker, Pharm. Tukur Ibrahim, echoed these sentiments, calling on the new pharmacists to embrace emerging technologies to strengthen medicine distribution, particularly in hard-to-reach areas.
In her valedictory remarks, Pharm. Maryam Abubakar Sulaiman expressed profound gratitude to her parents and the University for providing a supportive environment for her record-breaking achievement. The Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences concluded the ceremony by urging the graduands to serve the healthcare sector with integrity, reinforcing BUK’s reputation for producing elite medical professionals.
