BUK Provides Update on NELFUND Refund Exercise; 3,951 Students Successfully Reimbursed

Bayero University, Kano (BUK), has released a progress report on the ongoing NELFUND institutional charges refund exercise for the 2024/2025 academic session, confirming that the vast majority of eligible students have now received their payments.

In a general circular issued on February 26, 2026, the University's Directorate of Public Affairs disclosed that of the 4,632 students originally scheduled for refunds, 3,951 have been successfully cleared. However, 681 students remain on the waiting list due to various administrative and documentation discrepancies.

The University management identified several critical bottlenecks preventing the final disbursement of funds to the remaining batch of students. These include:

Documentation Gaps: Late or non-submission of original payment receipts.

To resolve these pending cases, the Director of Public Affairs, Lamara Garba, mnipr, urged all affected students to promptly submit the required documents and accurate banking details to the appropriate university channels.

“In light of the above, all affected students are hereby advised to promptly submit the required documents and accurate account details to enable the processing of their refunds,” the circular stated.

The NELFUND refund initiative is part of a broader effort to ensure that students who overpaid institutional charges following the approval of their national student loans are fully reimbursed in a transparent and timely manner.
