Bus Conveying UNILAG Post-Graduate Gowns Vandalized Ahead of 54th Convocation Ceremony

A significant setback has hit the University of Lagos (UNILAG) as the academic gowns designated for post-graduate graduands were stolen, leaving many students frustrated. The incident comes just days before the institution's 54th convocation ceremony, where 340 graduands were set to receive first-class degree certificates.
Graduates had been required to pay N15,000 for the collection of the academic gowns. Expressing disappointment, students scheduled to receive the gowns reported a prolonged wait without any communication from the school.
In a brief communication via text message and email, the management of the university's School of Post-Graduate Studies (SPGS) conveyed the unfortunate news to post-graduate students. The message stated, "Dear graduate, we regret to inform you that the distribution of SPGS academic gowns is now suspended. Sadly, the remaining gowns were stolen, and our bus vandalised this afternoon."
A lawyer, Malachy Odo, shared his experience after receiving a notice from the school, expressing frustration with the situation. "I paid 15k for a convocation gown yesterday, and this is what UNILAG just sent me. This country is not a real place," he wrote.
The incident has raised concerns among students and stakeholders, highlighting the need for a swift resolution and ensuring that affected graduates receive the necessary support.
