Colloquium in Honour of BUK VC, Prof. Haruna Musa, 99.9% Ready - KHAIRUN VC

The Vice-Chancellor of Khalifa Isyaku Rabiu University, Kano, KHAIRUN, Professor Abdulrashid Garba, has disclosed that preparations for the forthcoming colloquium and conference in honour of the Vice-Chancellor of Bayero University Kano, BUK, Professor Haruna Musa, fsi, are 99.9 per cent complete.

Professor Garba made this known on Monday during a courtesy visit to Professor Haruna Musa at Bayero University Kano ahead of the event scheduled to hold on August 18, 2026.

He explained that the colloquium is being organised to celebrate Professor Musa's contributions to higher education and leadership, while also providing a platform for universities across Kano, Jigawa and Katsina States to strengthen collaboration and deliberate on the role of science and technology education in advancing sustainable development.

Responding, Professor Haruna Musa expressed appreciation to the management of KHAIRUN for the honour, describing the initiative as timely and commendable. He noted that the colloquium would create an opportunity for public and private universities to deepen collaboration, foster strategic partnerships and promote the advancement of higher education in Northern Nigeria and beyond.

The BUK Vice-Chancellor further stressed the need for universities to shift from conducting research primarily for academic publication to research that drives innovation, commercialisation and national development.

According to him, transformative science and technology education remains indispensable to achieving sustainable development and addressing contemporary societal challenges.
