The Vice-Chancellor of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU), Professor Kate Azuka Omenugha, with the “Icon of Hope to Humanity” Award by the Advocate for Good Governance in Nigeria in recognition of her outstanding leadership, integrity, and service to humanity.

The ceremony, which took place at the Vice-Chancellor’s Conference Room, celebrated Prof. Omenugha’s transformative contributions to education, governance, and human capital development.

Leading the AFGIN delegation, Dr. Monday Ojomah, the organization’s Director of Programmes, was accompanied by Comrade Anigbogi Chikodili Victoria, Media and Publicity Officer, and Comrade Sebastian Akpoza, Director of Youth Mobilization. Dr. Ojomah noted that AFGIN is committed to advancing transparency, accountability, and responsible leadership across Nigeria. He further disclosed that the “Icon of Hope to Humanity” award has been bestowed on only three individuals nationwide, with Prof. Omenugha emerging as the first recipient from the South-East and South-South regions.

Presenting the plaque, Dr. Ojomah described the COOU Vice-Chancellor as “a symbol of hope, courage, and moral integrity in governance and education.” He praised her visionary leadership and steadfast dedication to institutional reform, youth development, and ethical governance — qualities that have earned her national and international admiration.

In her remarks, Prof. Omenugha expressed profound gratitude to AFGIN for the honour, describing it as “a call to serve humanity with greater passion and purpose.” She reaffirmed her unwavering commitment to COOU’s core philosophy of Values, Viability, and Visibility (the 3Vs), while commending AFGIN’s advocacy for justice, integrity, and social accountability.

The event ended with a group photograph and renewed pledges of partnership to further promote ethical leadership and excellence in education across Nigeria.
