CSACEFA Calls for Dialogue Among Gombe State Government, ASUU, and NASU Amid Ongoing University Strikes

The Civil Society Action Committee on Education For All (CSACEFA) has urged the Gombe State government, the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU) to engage in dialogue to resolve the ongoing strikes at Gombe State University.

The ongoing strikes by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU) at Gombe State University have significantly disrupted academic activities, leaving students without access to essential education resources.

Civil Society Action Committee on Education For All (CSACEFA), a prominent non-governmental organization dedicated to promoting quality education, has expressed deep concern over the situation. The organization has called on the Gombe State government, ASUU, and NASU to engage in immediate dialogue to resolve the crisis.

ASUU initiated an indefinite strike two weeks ago, citing issues such as the non-implementation of the N30,000 minimum wage, insufficient funding for the university, and the non-payment of accumulated earned allowances. Following this, NASU joined the protest last Monday with a one-week warning strike, highlighting similar grievances.

In a statement to the press, CSACEFA's Gombe State Coordinator, Abubakar Abdullahi Hussain, emphasized the urgent need for discussions, stating that the strikes have left students idle and wandering the streets. He noted that the prolonged absence from academic activities poses severe implications not only for students but also for societal stability and economic growth.
