The Provost of Edo State College of Nursing Sciences (EDOCNS), Prof. Patricia Ucheoma Ukaigwe, has commended Governor Godwin Obaseki for his efforts in upgrading the institution, positioning it for educational excellence. Under the leadership of Governor Obaseki, the college has seen significant improvements, contributing to the advancement of nursing education in Edo State.

EDOCNS recently hosted a four-day CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) training program in collaboration with the American Heart Association (AHA). The training, led by Dr. Chiedozie Osuorji from Code Red Emergency Medical Services, aimed at equipping the first cohort of nursing students and faculty members with vital life-saving skills.

Participants expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to receive intensive training in the state-of-the-art skills laboratory of EDOCNS in Benin City. Aliu Nurudeen, Head of the Public Health Nursing Department, highlighted the significance of continuous professional development, especially in CPR, as it enhances healthcare delivery.

Retired Director of Nursing Services in Edo State, Hossanna Alex Enunwaonye, encouraged members of the community to become rescue agents by sharing the knowledge gained during the training. She praised Governor Obaseki and Prof. Ukaigwe for their roles in the college’s progress and the successful organization of the program.

The Head of the Nursing Department, Charles Oloriegbe, also acknowledged the impact of Governor Obaseki’s commitment to education, which has led to the revitalization of EDOCNS. He emphasized the importance of the CPR training in improving patient care and praised Prof. Ukaigwe for her dedication.

Several students, including Agbator Osehimen Precious and Dada Onaopemipo Elizabeth, expressed their appreciation for the CPR training and certification. They credited the leadership of Governor Obaseki and Prof. Ukaigwe for providing them with life-saving skills that would benefit their future careers in healthcare.

The CPR training marked a new milestone in the college’s journey towards excellence, with the 81 first-cohort nursing students and faculty members now better equipped to respond to emergencies. The initiative further underscores the commitment of Governor Obaseki and EDOCNS leadership to advancing nursing education and healthcare services in Edo State.
