Edo State University Uzairue Launches Mandatory One-Year Industrial Training for Engineering Students

The management of Edo State University, Uzairue, has introduced a mandatory one-year industrial training programme for students in the departments of Chemical and Mechanical Engineering, focusing on acquiring technical skills in converting fuel-powered vehicles to gas-powered systems.

The management of Edo State University, Uzairue, has introduced a mandatory one-year industrial training programme for students in the departments of Chemical and Mechanical Engineering, focusing on acquiring technical skills in converting fuel-powered vehicles to gas-powered systems. The initiative aims to equip students with hands-on experience and promote sustainable energy solutions.

The Acting Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dawood Egbefo, announced the initiative during the flag-off ceremony, stating that the programme is designed to help alleviate the burden of rising fuel costs, provide access to affordable transportation, and contribute to job creation and economic growth. Prof. Egbefo highlighted that the initiative also aims to reduce carbon emissions, in alignment with the environmental goals of Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, who serves as the visitor to the university.

“This initiative demonstrates the university’s commitment to innovation, social responsibility, and collaboration with government and industry partners," said Prof. Egbefo. The industrial training programme is being executed in partnership with the Nigerian Independent Petroleum Company (NIPCO), the Presidential Initiative on Compressed Natural Gas, and the Edo State Ministry of Mining and Energy.

Prof. Egbefo emphasized that the collaboration would play a significant role in providing practical experience to students while contributing to national efforts to transition to cleaner energy sources. He noted that the university’s dedication to such innovative projects and its consistent academic calendar without strikes make it a top destination for students pursuing academic excellence.
