EKSU VC Commends Governor Oyebanji for Commitment to Repositioning University

The Vice Chancellor of Ekiti State University, EKSU, Professor Joseph Ayodele, has commended Governor Biodun Oyebanji for his commitment to repositioning the university into a world-class institution of learning.

Professor Ayodele gave the commendation on Tuesday, August 12, 2026, during the interactive S'etigbo multicast anchored by the Bureau of Community Communications in Ado-Ekiti.

He praised the Governor for his resolve and support for academic excellence, innovation, and research development as Visitor, alumnus, and former lecturer of the university.

While applauding Governor Oyebanji’s openness and collaborative approach with well-meaning Nigerians and Ekiti indigenes, the Vice Chancellor assured that the university would continue to uphold the highest standards in research, teaching, and community service.

“On policy issues, he has made significant contributions by giving us a robust council chairman and members who are giving us robust policies and even follow up on implementations,” Professor Ayodele said.

He highlighted several interventions, including the procurement of excursion and fieldwork vehicles for Geology, provision of a trading room, installation of 241 points of solar lights within and outside the campus, provision of two transformers, and N5 million support for academic staff attending conferences abroad. 

The Vice Chancellor also noted interventions in the College of Medicine that enabled an increase in admission quota from 50 to 100, and the facilitation of support from prominent citizens. He said the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, donated a hall at the Faculty of Law in preparation for the law programme, with plans to increase the quota from 60 to 250. 

He added that Dr. Zacch Adedeji is providing a project valued at over N1 billion at the Faculty of Management Sciences, while collaboration with Senator Michael Bamidele facilitated a medical hostel. He further disclosed that the Wife of the President commissioned the Renewed Hope ICT Experience Centre at the university, the first such visit in over 24 years, and also announced a N500 million endowment in honour of the President.

Professor Ayodele said IPPs had been extended to the university and the GRA where the VC resides, while students continue to receive bursaries and scholarships. He noted that the state government had cleared all outstanding subventions and salary arrears, and had supported the payment of the new salary structure for academic and non-teaching staff.

“There is peace on campus and we are working together with union members as a group. Students can now know when they graduate,” he said, adding that the Governor is providing emotional, financial, and infrastructural support to reposition the university.

The Vice Chancellor also noted that EKSU has recorded remarkable improvement in national rankings, moving from 33rd among state universities to the number one position. He attributed the progress to improved infrastructure, effective administration, and the support of the state government and other stakeholders.

He commended the Chancellor and members of the University Governing Council for their contributions to the development of EKSU, and expressed his desire to be remembered for sustaining and improving on the progress recorded by the university.
