ESUT Elects Ten New Deans In Free And Fair Poll, Law Faculty Election Ends In Tie

Ten New Deans were Monday, August 10, elected into their various faculties in ESUT, in the exercise described as free, fair and transparent by the various Chief Electoral Officers appointed by the Vice Chancellor, Prof Aloysius-Michaels Okolie to represent the University Management.

Results of the election revealed that four of the Deans, emerged unopposed as they had no contenders. 

Six others on the other hand emerged after defeating their various contestants while the Deanship election at the Law Faculty did not produce a winner.

According to the Director of Academic Planning ESUT, Prof Chike Anibeze who was the Chief Electoral Officer for the Law Faculty, there was no winner as both contestants - Prof Osita Nnamani Ogbu and Prof Christian Chukwuma Obeagu got 12 votes each. The result he said, would be presented to the Management to take a decision on the development.

Deans, elected unopposed were Professor Ikenna Ndu of the Faculty of Clinical Medicine, under the supervision of Prof. Charles Chime. 

Prof. Okey Oji was also elected unopposed as Dean of Faculty of Social Sciences. The election was supervised by the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Prof Chike Nwoha and the University Librarian, Dr. Uzoamaka Ogwo.

 Prof. Humphrey Nwobodo emerged winner for Allied Health Sciences and Prof. C. E. Achikanu won unopposed for Biological Sciences.

In the other six faculties where elections were keenly contested by candidates, the incumbent Dean of Faculty of Management Sciences, Prof Uche Ugwuanyi garnered 71 votes to defeat his only contestant, Prof Jude Udenta who scored 7 votes.

In a similar vein, Prof. Patrick Cyril N. Ejikeme emerged winner of the Deanship election in the Engineering Faculty with 34 votes, defeating Prof E. M. Ameh and Prof Patrick Onuamah who garnered 31 and 3 votes respectively,

In the Faculty of Education where Prof Ike Oluka presided as the Chief Electoral Officer, Prof Chika Loretta Ukwuaba got elected as the new Dean with 58 votes while her fellow contestant, Prof John O. Odoh trailed with 17 votes.

Prof. Joseph Ikechukwu Okoye of Food Science and Technology polled 9 votes to defeat the incumbent Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture and Natural Resources Management, Prof Emeka Nze who scored 6 votes.

In the Faculty of Physical Sciences, Prof Gabriel Zeruwa Ugwu emerged winner with 25 votes, defeating three others - Prof Mishark Nnabuchi 11 votes, Prof Chinelo Igwenagu, 6 votes and Prof Azubuike Ugwoke 1 vote.

Also, Prof. Celestine Obinna Aniagolu of Estate Management was declared the new Dean of Faculty of Environmental Sciences after he polled 26 votes to defeat his lone contestant, Prof. S. I. Ogbu of Geography and Meteorology who scored 10 votes.
