Despite the passage of more than one year since the incident, Dr. Obinna Onodugo, the Chief Medical Director of UNTH, has declined to release Mrs. Janet Nwaosu's body. He justifies this decision by alleging that one of the deceased's children had deliberately damaged a hospital window following their mother's death.

 The University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital (UNTH) in Enugu continues to detain the body of Mrs. Janet Nwaosu, a year after her death. This follows allegations that doctors at the hospital were responsible for her demise. The hospital management has also denied the deceased's family access to her body during this time.

The family of Mrs. Janet Nwaosu, who hailed from Amaeta village in Mgbowo, Awgu Local Government Area of Enugu State, accused a Dr. Chibuoke and a nurse of causing their mother's death. They claim that the doctor and nurse administered a fatal drug to Mrs. Nwaosu without her consent, resulting in her death within minutes.

Reports indicate that despite settling all necessary fees and charges, the Chief Medical Director ordered that no family member be allowed to view the deceased's body over the past year.Miss Augustina Nwaosu, the daughter of the deceased, expressed her family's distress at the situation. She disclosed that the hospital management has subjected them to a series of police investigations over the past year. Augustina had been caring for her mother before the unfortunate incident.

Augustina further lamented that instead of displaying remorse for their role in her mother's death, Dr. Onodugo invited the police to arrest her for seeking justice and expressing her concerns.She revealed how the Chief Medical Director had allegedly used the police to intimidate and harass her family over the past year. Augustina called on Nigerians and human rights organizations to come to their aid.

She also stated that the former Chairman of the Association of Resident Doctors at UNTH, Dr. Jide Uzoigwe, had informed her family that they would continue to expend their resources while the hospital management would obstruct every police investigation into the matter.

The family alleges that whenever the UNTH management perceives that the police are not accepting their version of events, they resort to bribery, pretend to seek a peaceful resolution, and then proceed to arrest family members using police from another unit.
