Federal Government Appoints Dr. Olugbenga Awe as Pro-Chancellor, Chairman of FUTA Governing Council
The Federal Government has appointed Dr. Olugbenga A. Awe as the new Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA).
The Federal Government has appointed Dr. Olugbenga A. Awe as the new Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA).
The appointment was conveyed in a letter dated July 30, 2026, and signed by the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa.
The letter reads: “I write to convey approval for your appointment as Pro-Chancellor and Chairman, Governing Council, Federal University of Technology, Akure, Ondo State. Your appointment takes effect from 29th July, 2026.”
Dr. Awe succeeds H.E. Senator Nora Ladi Daduut, who has been appointed Nigeria’s Ambassador to South Korea.

Dr. Olugbenga A. Awe, MD, is a distinguished physician, academic, entrepreneur and visionary leader whose career spans medicine, higher education, enterprise and public service.
A graduate of the University of Lagos, Dr. Awe received advanced postgraduate training in Obstetrics and Gynecology and Internal Medicine. He is an Associate Professor of Medicine at Mercer University School of Medicine in the United States of America.
As Pro-Chancellor of FUTA, Dr. Awe brings extensive international experience, strategic leadership and expertise in governance, alongside a commitment to academic excellence, innovation, institutional transformation and national development.
