Federal Poly Damaturu Partners with Yobe Govt to Launch Vocational Training for 200 Almajiri Children

The Rector of Federal Polytechnic Damaturu, Dr. Ibrahim Bello Bashir, has attended the launch of a skills acquisition programme for Almajiri children in Yobe State.

The event took place at the multipurpose auditorium of the Polytechnic on Tuesday, with several dignitaries in attendance.

Speaking at the occasion, Dr. Bashir said the initiative is aimed at empowering Almajiri children by equipping them with practical skills. He explained that the programme targets out-of-school children, especially in states with high numbers of such cases.

He reaffirmed the Polytechnic’s commitment to partnering with the Yobe State Government to tackle the Almajiri challenge through vocational training and inclusive education.

Dr. Bashir emphasized that skills have become a global currency, stressing the importance of preparing young people to be self-reliant and productive members of society.

The Executive Secretary of the Arabic and Islamic Education Board AISEB, Umar Abubakar, described the programme as a collaborative effort between the board and Federal Polytechnic Damaturu.

The training will cover trades such as tailoring, welding, shoemaking, carpentry, and building construction. It was approved by the Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni.

A total of 200 Almajiri children are expected to benefit from the six-month training programme, aimed at reducing youth vulnerability and unemployment.
