Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta Appoints Prof. Olusegun Idowu as Deputy Vice‑Chancellor (Academic)

The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) announced the election of Prof. Olusegun Idowu as its new Deputy Vice‑Chancellor (Academic) during the 232nd Statutory Meeting of Senate on 27 November 2025.

Prof. Idowu, a Registered Animal Scientist with more than 28 years of teaching, research and community‑engagement experience, previously served as Director of the Institute of Food Security, Environmental Resources and Agricultural Research (IFSERAR). An alumnus of FUNAAB, he began his career at the university as a Graduate Assistant in the College of Animal Science and Livestock Production (COLANIM) and rose to the rank of Professor of Monogastric Animal Nutrition.

His extensive administrative portfolio includes roles such as Head of the Department of Animal Nutrition, Director of the Distance Learning Centre, Chairman of the Senate Coordinating Committee on Examination Results (SECOCER) and Chairman of the Timetable and Examination Committee (TIMTEC). He currently represents the Federal Government on the Governing Council of the University of Lagos (UNILAG).

Prof. Idowu succeeds Prof. Olukayode Akinyemi, who has taken up the position of Vice‑Chancellor at Aletheia University, Ago‑Iwoye. The appointment underscores FUNAAB’s commitment to promoting distinguished alumni to senior leadership positions.

In a statement, the Acting Head of the Directorate of Public Relations, Mr. Olasunkanmi Olajide, highlighted Prof. Idowu’s “legacy of excellence, integrity and profound institutional loyalty” and expressed confidence that his leadership will further strengthen the university’s academic standing.
