FG Donates N100m Chemical Laboratory Equipment to FUTA

The Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), Ondo State, received a significant boost to its academic infrastructure with the donation of new chemical laboratory equipment valued at N100 million by the Federal Government. The donation was made possible through a partnership initiative between the National Office for Technology Acquisition and Promotion (NOTAP) and PZ Cussons Nigeria Limited . PZ Cussons Nigeria PLC had also upgraded five additional laboratories across various universities at a cost of N100 million each.

The Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), Ondo State, received a significant boost to its academic infrastructure with the donation of new chemical laboratory equipment valued at N100 million by the Federal Government.

The donation was made possible through a partnership initiative between the National Office for Technology Acquisition and Promotion (NOTAP) and PZ Cussons Nigeria Limited aimed at upgrading research laboratory facilities across Nigerian universities. The equipment, including the Inductively Coupled Plasma-Optical Emission Spectroscopy (ICP-OES), was inaugurated on Friday during a ceremony on the FUTA campus.

Chief Geoffrey Nnaji, the Minister of Innovation, Science, and Technology, represented by Dr. Obiageli Amadiobi, Director General of NOTAP, highlighted the significance of the laboratory upgrade in enhancing practical classes and productivity among students at FUTA. He called for increased collaboration between corporate organizations and the government to replicate such initiatives in other universities nationwide.

Nnaji commended NOTAP and PZ Nigeria for their commitment to improving educational infrastructure, noting that PZ Cussons Nigeria PLC had also upgraded five additional laboratories across various universities at a cost of N100 million each. FUTA's chemical laboratory, now equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, marks the seventh such upgrade and the first in the South-West geopolitical zone.

"The ministry, through NOTAP, will find a legal way of reciprocating this gesture," Nnaji affirmed. "I would also like to call on the benefiting institutions to put the equipment into judicious use."

Speaking at the event, Prof. Adenike Oladiji, the Vice Chancellor of FUTA, expressed gratitude for the collaboration between PZ Cussons Nigeria PLC and NOTAP, emphasizing its importance in fulfilling corporate social responsibilities and enhancing laboratory standards in Nigerian tertiary institutions. She assured the donors that the equipment would be meticulously maintained to support teaching, learning, and research activities at FUTA.
