NECO Releases 2024 SSCE Results, Identifies Cheating in 40 Schools

The National Examinations Council (NECO) has released the results for the June/July 2024 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE), revealing that 60.55% of candidates achieved at least five credits, including English Language and Mathematics.
NECO Registrar Prof. Dantani Wushishi announced that out of 1,376,423 registered candidates—706,950 males and 669,473 females—1,367,736 sat for the exam. Of these, 828,284 candidates earned five credits and above in key subjects, and 1,147,597 secured five credits or more, regardless of subject.
The results indicate a significant reduction in examination malpractices, with 8,437 cases reported in 2024 compared to 12,030 in 2023—a 30.1% decrease. However, 40 schools across 17 states were found to have engaged in mass cheating.
