FG Plans to Revitalize NECO and Other Exam Bodies for Enhanced Performance
Professor Wushishi revealed that NECO had faced capital project challenges over the past 15 years but continued to undertake crucial projects using Internally Generated Revenue. Despite not receiving specific appropriations for capital projects, the National Assembly had earmarked funds for the construction of seven additional state offices in Nasarawa, Rivers, Lagos, Sokoto, Taraba, Jigawa, and Abia states.
The Minister of Education, Prof Tahir Mamman, declared the Federal Government's intention to reposition the National Examinations Council (NECO) and other examination bodies to achieve optimal performance and elevate the quality of education. This announcement was made during the commissioning of examination logistics vehicles, NECO Data and scanning centres, and the presentation of staff productivity awards at NECO's headquarters in Minna, Niger State.
Represented by the Permanent Secretary, Mr. Andrew David Adejoh, the minister emphasized the need to fortify examination bodies to ensure accurate assessment and performance evaluation of students at the basic education level. Strengthening the foundational level of education is deemed crucial for the overall revitalization of the education sector, and the minister called for collective support from stakeholders to realize these goals.

The Registrar of NECO, Professor Dantani Wushishi, highlighted significant initiatives, including the procurement of 70 new examination logistics vehicles to facilitate the seamless and timely delivery of examination materials nationwide. Wushishi also emphasized the modernization of sensitive data collection processes through the establishment and equipping of data and scanning centres. These measures aim to enhance efficiency and safeguard against unauthorized access to examination data.
