FMC Misau Received Team for NEMSAS Accreditation
The Federal Medical Centre Misau has taken a significant step toward strengthening emergency healthcare delivery through an engagement with the National Emergency Medical Services and Ambulance System (NEMSAS), which featured detailed presentations and a comprehensive facility assessment at the Centre. The engagements took place on Monday, 22nd and Tuesday, 23rd December 2026.
The NEMSAS delegation was formally received by the Head of Clinical Services, Dr. Yakubu Bababa Shirama, who welcomed the team and reaffirmed FMC Misau’s commitment to collaboration aimed at improving emergency medical response and patient care outcomes.
NEMSAS is a national initiative designed to provide timely, efficient, and life saving emergency medical services at no cost to beneficiaries. The program focuses on rapid response, emergency care, and safe patient transportation during critical situations. Its scope of services includes paediatric emergency care for children aged 0 to 5 years for up to 48 hours, care for road traffic accident victims, building collapse incidents, fire and burn cases, communal crises, snake bite cases, domestic violence cases, and maternal emergency transportation through the Referral Emergency Support for Maternal Transport program for pregnant women in labour from hard to reach communities.
During the presentations, a representative of NEMSAS, Alhaji Abubakar Bichi, expressed satisfaction with the standard of services at FMC Misau and commended the hospital’s management and staff for their professionalism, dedication, and commitment to patient care.
Following the presentations, the NEMSAS team conducted a facility assessment, during which selected wards and service units were visited to evaluate the Centre’s readiness for effective emergency service delivery.
In his remarks, the Medical Director of FMC Misau, Dr. Rufai Abdu Dachi, commended the NEMSAS team for their efforts and expressed optimism that the engagement would pave the way for the commencement of NEMSAS services at the Centre. He noted that, upon full implementation, the people of Misau and its environs would soon begin to benefit from the program’s emergency medical services. He reaffirmed FMC Misau’s commitment to continuous improvement in emergency healthcare delivery.
