From Academic Struggle to First Class Excellence: UNILAG Celebrates Educational Administration Standout Jumoke Ajide

Amid the ongoing 56th Convocation Ceremonies of the University of Lagos (UNILAG), the inspiring academic journey of Jumoke Omotola Ajide has captured widespread attention, standing out as a powerful story of resilience and excellence.

Ajide graduated with outstanding distinctions that reflect her academic strength in Educational Management and Economics. She ranked within the top five per cent of her graduating class and emerged as the Best Graduating Student in her Teaching Subject Area (TSA) of Economics. Her scholarly excellence was further recognised with the award for the Best Research Project in the Department of Educational Management.

Her academic consistency was equally remarkable. Ajide recorded a perfect 5.00 Grade Point Average (GPA) in her first semester at the 400 level and maintained a GPA of 4.50 and above in five out of her six undergraduate semesters.

Beyond the accolades, Ajide’s achievement resonates deeply because of her personal background. Reflecting on her academic journey, she disclosed that she once repeated a class during her secondary school years. Her rise from that setback to graduating with First Class Honours from Nigeria’s “University of First Choice” underscores the power of perseverance and self-belief.

“It is really not over until it is over,” Ajide said. “That a one-time repeater in secondary school is now graduating with First Class Honours from the University of Lagos is a testament to growth.”

Members of the UNILAG community and education stakeholders have since hailed Ajide as a trailblazer, noting that her story serves as a source of motivation for students facing academic challenges. Her success, they say, reinforces the message that past failures do not define one’s future, but determination and hard work can.
