From Theory to Production: NSUK Engineering Students Fabricate Hostel Beds, Driving Research Commercialization

Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK), reached a significant milestone in practical education on Thursday, 5th February, 2026 as it officially commissioned rows of newly manufactured hostel bunk beds, entirely fabricated by students of the Faculty of Engineering at the Gudi Campus.

The event, which showcased the tangible practical application of the University’s "Knowledge for Development" motto, was attended by top government officials and university management.

Representing the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sa’adatu Hassan Liman, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Professor Maikano Mohammed Ari, hailed the project as a victory for vocational excellence. He noted that the initiative marks the true beginning of research commercialization within the University.

“Research commercialization has begun in this corner of the University. We are producing competent and productive graduates who will contribute meaningfully to society through the skills, knowledge, and experience acquired during their training,” Professor Ari stated.

In his speech, the special guest of honor at the event, Honourable Commissioner of Education, Dr. John D. W. Mamman, expressed profound satisfaction with the students' dedication and selflessness. He remarked that the ability of the students to solve internal university challenges such as accommodation needs- through engineering ingenuity is a clear indicator that NSUK is making significant progress on the national stage.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Dean of the Faculty, represented by the Deputy Dean, Dr. Abdulmumin Zubairu Loko highlighted that the commissioning is particularly symbolic as it coincides with the Faculty’s efforts at graduating its first set of students in the next session. He thanked the University management for providing the platform for students to showcase their contributions to societal development.

In his vote of thanks, the Registrar, Dr. Bala I. Ahmed II, expressed the University’s gratitude to the Honourable Commissioner of Education and the Permanent Secretary for their continued support. He congratulated the Faculty of Engineering on the milestone achieved and appreciated all guests who attended the event.

The commissioning of the hostel bunk beds was the highlight of the ceremony, which concluded with group photographs.
