FRSC Partners FUHSO on Road Safety Awareness, Moves to Strengthen Institutional Collaboration

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Otukpo Unit Command, has engaged the Federal University of Health Sciences, Otukpo (FUHSO) in a strategic partnership aimed at strengthening road safety awareness, driver training, and traffic management within the university environment.

The courtesy visit, conducted on March 18, 2026, was led by the Unit Commander, Assistant Corps Commander (ACC) Innocent Okenyi, who described the engagement as a “family visit” designed to deepen institutional cooperation and improve road safety outcomes.

ACC Okenyi reaffirmed the Corps’ mandate of reducing road traffic crashes through sustained patrols, enforcement of traffic regulations, and emergency response operations. He further disclosed the FRSC’s target of reducing road-related fatalities and injuries by 10 percent within the year.

As part of the proposed collaboration, he outlined plans for FRSC support in driver’s licence facilitation for university staff, deployment of personnel for traffic control during major institutional events, and inclusion of interested staff members into the Special Marshals programme.

In response, the Vice-Chancellor of FUHSO, Professor Francis Aba Uba, represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Professor Friday Godwin Okibe, welcomed the initiative, describing it as timely given the university’s expansion and expected increase in campus traffic density.

He emphasized that structured institutional collaboration with the FRSC would enhance safety compliance and operational efficiency, particularly as the university develops its permanent site.

The university also expressed readiness to formalize the engagement through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) covering driver training, safety education, and streamlined licensing support for members of the university community.
