FUE, Zaria VC Marks 304 Days in Office with Major Achievements in Infrastructure, Staff Welfare and Academic Growth

The Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Education (FUE), Zaria, Prof. Yahaya Isa Bunkure, has recorded significant achievements in infrastructure, staff welfare, academic development and institutional growth within his first 304 days in office.

Since assuming office on September 17, 2025, Prof. Bunkure has led several initiatives aimed at strengthening the University's physical infrastructure and improving service delivery. Major projects completed include a block of 18 offices, the rehabilitation of the Senate Building, University Library, Faculty of Languages Complex, Professorial Complex, Home Economics Laboratories, Old Physical and Health Education Block, Mathematics Block, and the 1,500-seat El-Rufai Hall. The administration also completed an office complex and lecture halls opposite the Faculty of Languages.

The University also installed a solar-powered electricity system at the Water Works to ensure uninterrupted water supply, provided solar power to the Students' Common Room, installed solar street lights at strategic locations, strengthened campus security through the recruitment of 48 additional personnel, and equipped key offices and directorates with computers and other working tools.

In the area of staff welfare, the administration has maintained industrial harmony, paid outstanding allowances, implemented promotions, conversions and change of cadre exercises, and ensured fair participation in conferences and training programmes. The successful assessment and promotion of eligible academic staff to the professorial cadre increased the University's academic strength to 45 Professors and 46 Readers, further enhancing teaching, research and academic excellence.

Academically, the administration successfully consolidated the University's transition from a College of Education to a Federal University of Education, secured approval for 34 academic programmes, increased the admission quota from 1,500 to 5,000 students, strengthened the ICT Directorate, expanded local and international collaborations, enhanced the operations of the TETFund Centre of Excellence for Technology-Enhanced Learning, and resolved the long-standing challenge of printing and issuing NCE certificates.

The Vice-Chancellor has also maintained cordial relationships with government officials, traditional and religious leaders, the host community and other stakeholders, reaffirming his commitment to building a world-class institution through purposeful leadership, innovation and quality service delivery.
