FUEP Celebrates Historic Milestone with Inauguration of Pioneer Professors
The Federal University of Education, Pankshin (FUEP) has concluded a landmark three-day event to celebrate the emergence of its pioneer professors, marking a definitive shift in the institution’s academic evolution.
The strategic engagement, held at the University Auditorium, brought together 28 Professors and 35 Associate Professors. The programme focused on institutional sustainability, leadership development, and the strengthening of academic excellence.
Vision for Global Relevance
The substantive Vice-Chancellor, Professor Noel Wannang, described the workshop—organized in collaboration with the Centre for Advocacy on Peace and Ethics in Nigeria (CANEP)—as a vital intervention for the university's growth.
“Professors must serve not only as scholars but as pillars of academic sustainability, peacebuilding, and institutional memory,” Professor Wannang remarked, outlining his vision to reposition FUEP for global relevance.
Environmental and Ethical Leadership
Beyond the lecture halls, the Vice-Chancellor led a symbolic tree-planting ceremony, featuring guava, pear, and mango trees, as a practical commitment to environmental sustainability on campus.
The event featured high-level contributions from:
CANEP: Represented by Brigadier General David Buba Shaljaba (Rtd.) and Professor Yohanna Mamza, who discussed the academia’s role in national development.
Keynote Speakers: Rev. Professor Pandam Yamsat and Professor Patricia Lar, who urged the new professoriate to prioritize research visibility, mentorship, and academic integrity.
The Cardinal Onaiyekan Foundation for Peace, which contributed insights on ethical leadership.
Commemorative Honors
The three-day summit culminated in an award presentation and a formal dinner. A highlight of the evening was the public presentation of the commemorative book, “Never in Dreams: The Transformation and Making of Pioneer Professors,” documenting the historic transition of the institution.
