FUHSO VC, Prof. Uba, Receives Sir Ahmadu Bello Award of Excellence

The Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Health Sciences, Otukpo (FUHSO), Professor Francis Aba Uba, has been conferred with the Sir Ahmadu Bello Award of Excellence — Garkuwan Matasan Arewa Icon and Cynosure of Societal Transformation.

The Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Health Sciences, Otukpo (FUHSO), Professor Francis Aba Uba, has been conferred with the Sir Ahmadu Bello Award of Excellence — Garkuwan Matasan Arewa Icon and Cynosure of Societal Transformation.

The award was presented on Monday, March 23, 2026, at the Otada Campus of the university by officials of the Northern Youths Association of Nigeria, in recognition of what the group described as his outstanding leadership and contributions to education, national unity, and institutional development.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Association’s President, Mr. Isah Ododo, commended Professor Uba’s leadership style, describing him as an exemplary academic and nation-builder whose influence extends beyond the university environment. He said the award was also intended to strengthen engagement between the association and the university leadership.

The Vice President of the Association, Mr. Amana U. Shapi, also praised the Vice-Chancellor’s focus on staff welfare and institutional growth, noting that the pace of development recorded under his administration reflects strong and effective leadership.

In his response, Professor Uba expressed appreciation for the recognition, stressing that public service should be driven by impact rather than accolades. He called on the association to promote unity and national cohesion, while cautioning against divisions along ethnic or religious lines, which he described as barriers to national development.

He dedicated the award to the Governing Council, management, staff, and students of FUHSO, describing it as a reflection of collective effort and institutional commitment to progress.

The University Registrar, Mr. Michael Okoko Ogiji, described the recognition as a boost to the university’s visibility and reputation in the national academic space.

The event was attended by principal officers of the university, including the Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Professor Godwin Friday Okibe; Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Professor Cecilia Ojabo; University Librarian, Dr. (Mrs.) Taiwo Adetoun Akinde; Provost of the College of Medicine, Professor Edwin Iduh Ogwuche; and other senior administrators and association officials.
