FUNAAB Governing Council Honors Immediate Past DVC (Academic) and Former Council Member for Exceptional Service
The 8th Governing Council of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), led by the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman, His Royal Majesty, Oba Rasheed Ayotunde Olabomi, Odundun IV, Asoludero, the Aragbiji of Iragbiji Land, during the 114th Statutory Meeting today, December 3, 2025, celebrated two distinguished scholars of the University for their exceptional service to FUNAAB.
They are the immediate past Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Olukayode Akinyemi, and a former Council member, who is currently the Chairman, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Committee, Prof. Biodun Badmus.
The special recognition event, held at the new Council Chamber, provided an atmosphere of warmth and deep appreciation as the Pro-Chancellor extolled the honourees for their remarkable attributes and contributions. Oba Olabomi described both Professors as “men of great strength, humility, integrity, and reliability, who have consistently demonstrated uncommon dedication and the ability to multitask at the highest levels of responsibility.”
Speaking further, the Pro-Chancellor noted that their footprints remain indelible in the University’s development trajectory, emphasising that their exemplary service has set a standard for others to follow.
In his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Babatunde Kehinde, applauded the duo for their steady commitment to the University, stating: “We thank you for your immense contributions to FUNAAB. We honour you today, and we want you to know that the University wishes you well. Your impact, particularly in breaking new grounds, will not be forgotten.” He, however, appreciated Prof. Badmus for the prudent management of resources as the Chairman of the CSR Committee.
Other Council members also paid glowing tributes to the celebrants, recalling their sterling performances, with Prof. Akinyemi as the immediate past DVC (Academic) and Prof. Badmus as a dedicated Council member of the 7th Governing Council. They described the honourees as invaluable assets to the University Community, highlighting their humility, doggedness, openness to correction, and cooperative spirit. They unanimously affirmed that FUNAAB was fortunate to have benefited from their leadership and service.
Notably, Prof. Olukayode Akinyemi has recently assumed office as the Vice-Chancellor of Aletheia University, Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State, an achievement the Council described as well deserved.
As a mark of appreciation for their selfless service, gifts were presented to the honourees by the Pro-Chancellor, assisted by the Vice-Chancellor.
