FUNAAB Strengthens Ties with Host Communities Through Strategic Engagement

The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) hosted a courtesy visit from the Area Baale of Isolu, Emere, and Atadi villages on August 30, 2024. The delegation, led by Chief Mahdiu Sabitu Iredele, met with the university’s leadership at the Green Chamber to discuss strategies for fostering peaceful co-existence, enhancing security, and strengthening the relationship between FUNAAB and the surrounding communities.

Welcoming the delegation, FUNAAB Vice-Chancellor, Professor Babatunde Kehinde, emphasized the importance of collaboration between the university and its host communities. He highlighted the need for enhanced security measures to support the growth and development of both the institution and the neighboring villages. Professor Kehinde also assured the visitors of mutual cooperation and open communication, inviting them to visit his office whenever necessary.

In response, Chief Mahdiu Iredele expressed his community's readiness to partner with the university, particularly in the area of security. He noted that the villages of Isolu, Emere, and Atadi were committed to working together with the university to curb crime and other vices. Chief Iredele also thanked FUNAAB for the development it has brought to the surrounding areas and expressed a desire for the community to benefit further from the university’s CSR initiatives, particularly in terms of admission opportunities for their qualified sons and daughters.

The meeting was attended by several key university officials, including the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Development), Professor Kola Adebayo; the Acting Registrar, Mrs. Oluwatoyin Dawodu; a representative of the University Librarian, Dr. Idayat Agboola; and Mr. Moses Ayanda, DR II, Vice-Chancellor’s Office. The Baale’s delegation included other community leaders, such as Chief Sunday Alao Oluyomi (Otun Area Baale) and Chief Ganiyu Akinsanya (Baale Balogun – Awututu village).

The visit marked a significant step towards strengthening the relationship between FUNAAB and its host communities, promoting peaceful co-existence and mutual understanding.
