During their separate exit reports at the office of the Vice Chancellor in the West Campus of FUO on November 1st, 2023, the National Universities Commission teams in their findings and recommendations praised the Vice Chancellor, Professor Teddy Charles Adias and the Management team for not only birthing the Postgraduate programmes but creating an environment conducive for learning despite the harsh economic realities in the country. They also commended the Vice Chancellor on how far the School Management had gone to mainstream the budding University.

The NUC Accreditation teams expressed the belief that the philosophy, aims and specific objectives of the various programmes in the four Faculties were mentioned in the curricula presented and deemed appropriate. In terms of manpower requirements, the findings indicate that staff in the various Departments had requisite qualifications. Also, minimum requirements for graduation were clearly spelt out as stipulated by NUC in almost all the programmes with the exception of the Department of Economics and Development Studies. This Department  needed improvement by way of delineating it from a programme on Development Economics since the field is new in FUO.

A common denominator during the inspection of classrooms, Library/e-resources and available facilities at the four Faculties of the Postgraduate School by the NUC Accreditation teams indicated that they were adequate and met the needs of the various programmes. The exceptions were in the offices of the Professors, which required a little facelift in relation to space and comfort in line with NUC standards.

The NUC Accreditation team to the Department of Economics and Development Studies, led by Professor Abdulkadir recommended that the programme should be multidisciplinary in scope with the introduction of GIS to deal with environmental issues, coordinates or geographical locations, and more functional laboratories.

In this regard, the Vice Chancellor Professor Teddy Adias assured the team that Management will strive to make the programme multidisciplinary in scope with the integration of courses and lecturers from other fields such as Chemical Engineering, Geography, etc. He also offered commitment to improve on the synopsis and other necessary details to upscale the programme.

The Vice Chancellor Professor Teddy Adias generally assured the other NUC Accreditation teams that areas of glaring lapses will be improved upon and areas of relative strength would be enhanced further within available financial resources. This, he intoned, is a top priority of his administration.
