The Students’ Union Government (SUG) of the Federal University of Technology, Minna (FUT Minna) has issued a directive banning students from acting as agents or middlemen in securing off-campus housing for their peers.
In a press release dated 8th February 2026, the SUG cited rising complaints of exploitation, inflated charges, and undue financial pressure on students from those posing as accommodation intermediaries.
The union emphasized that this move aims to protect students’ welfare and financial interests. It highlighted that the practice of student intermediaries has repeatedly led to extortion and unfair dealings.
To assist students seeking off-campus housing, the SUG announced that verified contact details of lodge caretakers will be made available, urging students to communicate directly with lodge management or caretakers without involving any student intermediary

The SUG reaffirmed its commitment to fairness, transparency, and a safe living environment. Students experiencing intimidation, extortion, or suspicious activities related to accommodation are urged to report immediately to the union for intervention.
The statement also warned that any student found acting as a middleman or collecting money on behalf of lodge owners or caretakers will face disciplinary action from university management.
Students are advised to strictly adhere to this directive to avoid sanctions.
