FUTA Alumnus Oluwole Owoyemi Receives Scientific Event Travel Grant from Applied Microbiology International (AMI, UK)
Oluwole Owoyemi, a Ph.D. graduate from the Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA), has been awarded a Scientific Event Travel Grant by Applied Microbiology International (AMI, UK). This grant enabled him to present his research on antimicrobial agents at the American Society for Microbiology (ASM) conference in Atlanta, USA.
Oluwole Owoyemi, a distinguished alumnus of the Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA), has been awarded a prestigious Scientific Event Travel Grant by Applied Microbiology International (AMI, UK). This grant facilitated his attendance and presentation at the esteemed annual conference of the American Society for Microbiology (ASM) held in Atlanta, Georgia, USA, from June 12th to 17th, 2024.

Dr. Owoyemi, who holds a Ph.D. in Medical Microbiology from FUTA, showcased his groundbreaking research on antimicrobial agents and resistance during the ASM Microbe 2024 conference. His study, titled "Comparative Studies on the Antibacterial Properties of Ageratum conyzoides and Tridax procumbens Leaf Extracts on Selected Pathogens," focused on exploring natural plant extracts as alternative therapies against drug-resistant microorganisms prevalent in cancer patients.
The poster presentation by Dr. Owoyemi garnered significant attention from the scientific community, sparking discussions on the potential of A. conyzoides and T. procumbens extracts in treating multidrug-resistant bacterial infections, including those affecting breast and prostate cancer patients. Attendees from diverse backgrounds applauded his findings and proposed future pre-clinical research to harness these innovative discoveries.

Having earned his Ph.D. with distinctions from FUTA, Dr. Owoyemi has authored over twenty research articles in peer-reviewed international journals. His academic journey includes accolades such as Best Student in Virology and recognition as the Best Medical Researcher during his graduate studies. He has also participated in numerous scientific conferences globally, including engagements in the UAE and the USA.
