FUTA Appoints New Leadership for College of Health Sciences: Professor Olusegun Ojo as Provost and Professor Victor Ukwenya as Deputy Provost
These appointments are anticipated to enhance the academic and research output of the College of Health Sciences at FUTA.
The Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) has appointed Professor Olusegun Ojo as Provost and Professor Victor Ukwenya as Deputy Provost of its College of Health Sciences. The appointments are effective from August 1, 2024, and will last for two years.
Professor Ojo, a renowned Professor of Pathology at Obafemi Awolowo University College of Health Sciences, obtained his Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery from the University of Lagos in 1983 and later completed his postgraduate residency training in Pathology. He has made significant contributions to the field of Gastroenterology, focusing on diseases of the liver and digestive tract, and has served as President of both the Society for Gastroenterology in Nigeria and the Africa Middle East Association of Gastroenterology. Ojo is also the founding Editor-in-Chief of the Annals of Tropical Pathology.
Professor Ukwenya holds a BSc, MSc, and PhD in Anatomy from the University of Ilorin and the University of Lagos. He has a rich academic background, beginning his career as a Teaching Assistant in 2007 and progressing to become a Professor in 2022. Ukwenya has published over 70 research articles and has held several leadership positions, including serving as the pioneer Dean of the School of Basic Medical Sciences at FUTA.
