FUTA Appoints Prof. Melodi as Dean, School of Electrical Systems Engineering

The Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) has appointed Professor Oladipo Melodi of the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering as Dean, School of Electrical Systems Engineering (SESE), for a two-year term effective August 1, 2025.

The Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) has appointed Professor Oladipo Melodi of the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering as Dean, School of Electrical Systems Engineering (SESE), for a two-year term effective August 1, 2025.

His appointment followed an election by the School’s Board of Studies and approval by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Adenike Oladiji.

Professor Melodi’s academic journey at FUTA spans over two decades. He served as Assistant Lecturer and Lecturer I from 2000 to 2009, Senior Lecturer between 2009 and 2012, Associate Professor from 2012 to 2015, and attained the rank of full Professor in 2015. He was Sub-Dean of the former School of Engineering and Engineering Technology (SEET) between 2007 and 2009, Acting Head of the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering from 2009 to 2013, and pioneer Dean of SESE when SEET was restructured.

A distinguished engineer, Melodi is a member of the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), the Nigerian Society of Engineers, and a Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). He has had international exposure as a Short-Term Scholar at the Centre for Energy Systems and Control, Howard University, USA (2015–2017), and served as a Visiting Lecturer (on sabbatical) at the University of Ibadan’s Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (2014–2015).

His professional achievements include recognition for outstanding Nigerian contributions at the International Conference on Energy and Power System Operation and Planning (ICEPSOP) in 2020 and 2023. He also convened the 2018 FUTA-USAID Peer Workshop, won FUTA’s Best Researcher Award in 2018, and received the University’s Award of Excellence and Productivity in 2014.

A widely travelled scholar, Professor Melodi has supervised over 60 undergraduate projects, 36 Master’s dissertations, and five PhD theses.
