McPherson University Seeks Strategic Partnership with South African Firm to Boost Research, Capacity Building and Globalization

McPherson University, Seriki Sotayo, Ogun State, has commenced discussions with BEE Solutions and Consultancy Services on a strategic partnership aimed at strengthening capacity development, promoting research excellence, and expanding international collaboration opportunities for staff and students.

The discussions involved the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Francis Igbasan; the Registrar, Mrs. Emi’ Alawode; and the Founder and Director of BEE Solutions and Consultancy Services, South Africa, Professor Beatrice Opeolu.

Under the proposed partnership, the University expects to provide capacity-building programmes for both academic and administrative staff. Students and researchers will also be equipped with skills to develop competitive research proposals capable of attracting local and international funding.

Speaking on the initiative, Professor Igbasan expressed optimism about the collaboration, stressing the importance of global exposure and strategic institutional partnerships in advancing the University’s academic and institutional development. He said McPherson University remains open to collaborations that will empower staff, create opportunities for students, and strengthen the University’s academic standing.

A key component of the partnership will focus on research development, particularly training in grant writing and the promotion of high-impact research to address developmental challenges in Nigeria and across Africa. The collaboration will also explore leadership development programmes for Deans, Heads of Departments and emerging academic leaders.

Beyond academics, Professor Opeolu, who is also a former President of the Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry, SETAC World Council, said the partnership will extend to administrative and technical staff through training in artificial intelligence, modern administrative practices, and the transition to paperless office systems.

The collaboration will also introduce the "EmpowHer" initiative at McPherson University, a leadership and skills programme designed specifically for female undergraduate students. Mrs. Emi’ Alawode, a co-convener of EmpowHer, said the initiative focuses on mentorship, building professional profiles such as on LinkedIn, and career-readiness workshops for female students. 

Having recorded success in several African higher education institutions, including cohorts in South Africa and Nigeria, the gender-focused project aims to equip young women with essential tools for future leadership.
