FUTA, Kumasi Technical University Sign MoU to Strengthen Academic Collaboration

The Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), and Kumasi Technical University (KsTU), Ghana, have commenced a strategic academic partnership with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening collaboration in teaching, research, and other academic activities.

The Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), and Kumasi Technical University (KsTU), Ghana, have commenced a strategic academic partnership with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening collaboration in teaching, research, and other academic activities.

The agreement was signed on Friday, July 17, 2026, during a visit by a delegation from FUTA to Kumasi Technical University.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, the Vice-Chancellor of FUTA, Prof. Adenike Oladiji, who was represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Development), Prof. Sunday Oluyamo, the Dean of Student Affairs, Prof. David Oke, and the Director of Corporate Communication and Protocol, Mr. Adegbenro Adebanjo, said the partnership was driven by the need to deepen collaborative research and academic engagement with like-minded institutions across Africa.

She expressed confidence that the agreement would be implemented effectively to deliver mutual benefits for both universities, noting that the two institutions share similar structures and academic missions.

Responding, the Vice-Chancellor of Kumasi Technical University, Prof. Gabriel Dwomoh, welcomed the partnership and described FUTA's choice of KsTU as a strategic decision.

He stressed that signing a Memorandum of Understanding alone was not enough, urging both institutions to remain committed to implementing the agreement to ensure meaningful benefits for staff, students, and their respective countries.

The partnership will cover several areas of cooperation, including staff and student exchange programmes, split-site supervision of postgraduate students, particularly PhD candidates, joint research projects in areas of mutual interest, co-hosting of academic and research conferences and symposia, as well as the exchange of technical and support staff to strengthen expertise in engineering, science, and other technical disciplines.

As part of the visit, the FUTA delegation toured Kumasi Technical University's main laboratory and held discussions with the Dean of International Affairs and Institutional Linkages, Prof. Sarfo Mensah; the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Prof. Julius Ahiekpor; the Dean of the Graduate School, Prof. Roland Kabange; and the Vice-Dean for Institutional Linkages, Dr. Jonas Bawah.
