During the Combined Matriculation ceremony held for the 2023/2024 academic session, the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA), Professor Adenike Oladiji, urged the newly admitted students to leverage their time at the university to engage in research and product development aimed at addressing societal challenges. With over 5,986 undergraduate and postgraduate students matriculating, Professor Oladiji emphasized the importance of students' contributions to research, innovation, and the creation of new products and applications across various fields.

Highlighting the significant impact of postgraduate research on global university rankings, Professor Oladiji encouraged students to align with FUTA's vision of becoming a world-class University of Technology and a Center of Excellence in training, research, and service delivery. She underscored the university's core values of integrity, creativity, accountability, rationality, and excellence, urging students to embody these principles throughout their academic journey.

Recognizing FUTA's reputation as a research-intensive institution, the Vice Chancellor called upon the new students to uphold the university's legacy of excellence and contribute to its continued advancement. She emphasized the university's zero tolerance for activities such as thuggery, vandalism, cultism, and examination malpractice, warning of stiff penalties for offenders.

In addition to promoting academic excellence, Professor Oladiji advised students to prioritize character development, emphasizing the importance of hard work, moderation, and discipline in achieving their academic goals. She urged students to familiarize themselves with the resources available at the Counseling unit of the Students’ Affairs Division, underscoring its relevance to their academic success and overall well-being.

The matriculation ceremony, attended by principal officers of the university, deans of schools, school officers, and parents, featured the administration of the Matriculation Oath to the new students by the Registrar, Mr. Charles Adeleye, signifying their formal enrollment into higher education.
