The School of Infrastructure, Mineral and Manufacturing Engineering (SIMME) at the Federal University of Technology Akure has organized a capacity-building seminar aimed at improving service delivery among its administrative staff.

The training session, held on Monday, April 13, 2026, was designed to strengthen administrative efficiency, professional conduct, and institutional record management within the school.

In his opening remarks, the School Officer, Akinyode, said the programme was conceived to sensitize, encourage, and equip staff with the skills required to improve performance in their daily responsibilities. He noted that the choice of facilitators reflected their extensive experience and institutional knowledge.

He commended the Dean of SIMME, C. O. Akinbile, for what he described as strong leadership and an open-door administration style, which he said has contributed to stability and development within the school.

Delivering his address, Akinbile stressed the importance of continuous training and retraining in professional environments, describing learning as an ongoing process essential for institutional growth. He urged administrative staff to take full advantage of the in-house programme to improve their competence and productivity.

One of the facilitators, V. C. Blackwell, presented a paper titled “Record Keeping and Office Management in the University,” where he described record keeping as the systematic management of institutional information from creation through retention to disposal. He emphasized its importance in ensuring accountability, efficiency, and effective administration in higher education settings.

Another facilitator, V. A. Adamolekun, delivered a session on “Confidentiality and Ethics in Secretarial Practices.” She defined confidentiality as the protection of sensitive information and highlighted ethics as the guiding principles that regulate professional behaviour in the workplace.

She urged secretarial staff to uphold integrity, honesty, discretion, reliability, impartiality, and professionalism in the discharge of their duties, noting that adherence to ethical standards is critical to maintaining trust and institutional credibility.
