McPherson University Promotes Austin Omomia to Professor of Philosophy of Religion and Social Ethics
The Governing Council of McPherson University has approved the promotion of Austin Omomia to the rank of Professor of Philosophy of Religion and Social Ethics.
The Governing Council of McPherson University has approved the promotion of Austin Omomia to the rank of Professor of Philosophy of Religion and Social Ethics.
The promotion recognises his outstanding contributions to teaching, research, scholarship, university administration and community service, as well as his sustained commitment to academic excellence spanning more than three decades.
Professor Omomia is a scholar in the Department of Religion and Peace Studies at McPherson University, where he has distinguished himself in teaching, postgraduate supervision, curriculum development, programme accreditation and institutional development.
Over the years, he has held several key leadership positions within the university, including:
- Head, Department of Religion and Peace Studies.
- Director, Centre for Continuing Education.
- Chairman, University Admissions Committee.
- Chairman, Ceremonies Committee.
- Chairman, Senate Committee on Enhancing Students' Enrolment.
- Editor-in-Chief, McPherson University Multidisciplinary Journal (HUMASS).
The university said his leadership has contributed to successful accreditation exercises, the establishment of postgraduate programmes, improved institutional visibility and increased student enrolment.
A prolific scholar, Professor Omomia has authored and co-authored more than 60 scholarly publications, including books, peer-reviewed journal articles, book chapters and conference papers.
He has also written 74 Christian books and devotional materials.

- Quality Assurance in Higher Education.

Professor Omomia has received several national and international honours and is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Mediators and Conciliators (FICMC).
He is also a registered member of the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) and belongs to several professional bodies, including:
- American Academy of Religion (AAR).
- International Sociological Association (ISA).
- African Association for the Study of Religions (AASR).
- Association for the Sociology of Religion (ASR).
- National Association for Christian Studies (NACS), where he currently serves as Editor-in-Chief.
