The Federal University of Technology Akure Students Union (FUTASU) has inaugurated a new shopping facility at the Aluta market area of the institution. The 18-shop space was officially commissioned on Monday, July 22, 2024, marking a significant achievement for the union.

Former FUTASU President, Comrade Oluwasoromidayo Olayemi, highlighted the project's completion as a testament to the legacies of past union leaders who initiated and supported its realization. Olayemi emphasized that student unionism should diversify its revenue sources beyond membership dues to foster community growth and development.

Professor Olanrewaju Oke, Dean of Student Affairs, praised the project as an iconic and symbolic milestone, noting that no previous student union executive had accomplished such a feat. He acknowledged the contributions of Professor Gbenga Onibi, Director of Academic Planning, and the University's Physical Planning Unit for their roles in the project's supervision and completion.

Vice Chancellor, Professor Adenike Oladiji, commended the student leaders for their vision and progressive initiatives, which have elevated the status of student unionism at FUTA. She assured the students of the institution's ongoing support as they advance towards future leadership roles and encouraged them to maintain and effectively utilize the new facility. Professor Oladiji also urged the new FUTASU President, Adegoriola Abejoye, to expand and improve the project, ensuring its smooth operation.

In his vote of thanks, former Speaker of the Students Representative Council, Honourable Femi Falana, expressed gratitude to the university management for celebrating the administration's success and extended best wishes to the incoming union leaders.
