FUTA Receives New Chemical Laboratory Through FG and Industry Partnership

The Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA) has unveiled a new state-of-the-art chemical laboratory, equipped with an Inductively Coupled Plasma-Optical Emission Spectroscopy (ICP-OES) system. This development is the result of a collaboration between the National Office for Technology Acquisition and Promotion (NOTAP) and PZ Cussons Nigeria Limited.

The laboratory was officially commissioned on July 18, 2024, by the Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Chief Uche Nnaji, represented by Dr. Obiageli Amadi-Obi, Director General of NOTAP. Dr. Amadi-Obi highlighted that this initiative addresses the gap between industries and the National Innovation System (NIS), and aims to enhance research and development capabilities in Nigerian universities.

The Managing Director of PZ Cussons Nigeria, Mr. Dimitris Kostianis, emphasized the importance of deploying advanced technologies for excellent research and pledged continued support for academic and technological advancement.

FUTA's Vice Chancellor, Professor Adenike Oladiji, represented by Professor Taiwo Amos, assured that the new equipment will be well-maintained and effectively utilized to enhance research and teaching at the university.

Professor Elvis Okoronkwo of FUTA praised the ICP-OES system for its versatility in analyzing various samples and expected that it will significantly advance the university's research capabilities and reputation.
