FUTA Warns Public Against Admission Scammers, Arrests Fraudster Targeting Candidates
The Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) has alerted the public to fraudulent activities targeting candidates seeking admission into the University.
The Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) has alerted the public to fraudulent activities targeting candidates seeking admission into the University. On Monday, December 8, 2025, FUTA Security arrested a man who had collected a substantial sum from a candidate and her parents under the false pretense of securing admission into the University.
The suspect was apprehended following a sting operation after the parents reported repeated demands for payment. He admitted to collecting the funds, and security agents took appropriate action.

FUTA emphasizes that impostors are circulating false claims via text messages, social media posts, and phone calls, offering to manipulate Post-UTME Screening results or secure admission slots for money. The University stresses that no individual—internal or external—can alter results or guarantee admission, which is strictly merit-based and managed through the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB).
The University warns candidates and the general public to be vigilant, noting that any financial losses incurred from dealing with these fraudsters will be the responsibility of the individuals involved. This notice also serves as an official disclaimer.
FUTA urges all applicants to verify information only through official channels and report suspicious activities immediately.
