Godfrey Okoye University, Enugu, has reinforced its international collaborations following a high-level visit by global partners and benefactors to its advanced DNA Centre located in Ugwuomu Nike.

The delegation, led by the university’s Foreign Liaison Officer, Ms. Meggy Kantert, was hosted by the Vice-Chancellor, Reverend Father Professor Christian Anieke, during a guided tour of the facility, which is widely regarded as one of the most advanced and largest DNA centres in Africa.

Laboratory Manager, Mr. Victor Abba, took the visitors through the operations of the centre, explaining its role in bridging academic theory with practical scientific application. He highlighted that the facility is fully powered by solar energy, enabling uninterrupted 24-hour operations while maintaining environmental sustainability.

According to him, the centre is equipped with modern automated systems designed to support a wide range of services, including DNA profiling, paternity testing, forensic investigations, facial recognition technology, and disease surveillance.

He further noted that beyond its academic mandate, the centre collaborates with the Enugu State Government in supporting crime prevention efforts and is actively pursuing partnerships with health agencies to enhance disease tracking and public health response systems.

Members of the visiting delegation, including Ms. Claudia Kaminski of Radio Vatican and Reverend Father George, expressed admiration for the technical capacity of the facility as well as the professionalism of its staff. They also commended the university’s commitment to scientific excellence and innovation.

The delegation further praised the cultural hospitality of Enugu and indicated interest in deepening long-term collaboration with the institution.

The visit is seen as a significant step in strengthening Godfrey Okoye University’s global academic and scientific partnerships, while reinforcing its position as a leading centre for advanced research and applied science in Africa.
