Gov Alia's PPS Dr. Chenge Visits BSUTH for Hazard Payment Screening
Dr. Emmanuel Chenge visited BSUTH to monitor the screening process for hazard payments owed to staff by the previous administration of Samuel Ortom.
Dr. Emmanuel Chenge, Principal Private Secretary to Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, made an unscheduled visit to the Benue State University Teaching Hospital (BSUTH) in Makurdi on September 10, 2024. His visit was aimed at overseeing the ongoing screening process for the hazard payment owed to BSUTH staff, a liability left by the previous administration of Governor Samuel Ortom.
The staff at BSUTH have been owed 21 months of hazard compensation, a situation that has caused significant distress. Dr. Chenge’s visit underscores the new administration's resolve to address this issue, ensuring that the hospital’s healthcare workers receive their long-overdue entitlements.
During his visit, Dr. Chenge closely monitored the screening process and met with the hospital's management, led by Dr. Terungwa Stephen Hwande, to assess the progress and challenges faced. This move demonstrates the administration's proactive approach in tackling the problem.
Commenting on the visit, Dr. Hwande, Medical Director of BSUTH, noted, "The Principal Private Secretary's presence reaffirms the government's commitment to resolving this lingering issue and ensuring that the healthcare sector continues to deliver efficient services to the people of Benue State."
The Alia administration’s focus on resolving the hazard payment issue is seen as part of its broader efforts to support the healthcare system and improve the overall welfare of its workforce.
