Governor Agbu Kefas Reduces Taraba State Polytechnic Fees to ₦11,000

As of February 23, 2026, Governor Agbu Kefas has officially reduced the tuition fees for students at Taraba State Polytechnic, Jalingo, to ₦11,000.

This directive is part of the administration's ongoing commitment to making higher education affordable and accessible to all citizens of Taraba State. The move builds upon earlier reforms, including a state-wide 50% reduction in tuition fees for all state-owned tertiary institutions implemented in 2023 to cushion the effects of fuel subsidy removal.

Key Highlights of the Fee Reduction

Target Institution: The ₦11,000 flat fee applies to students of Taraba State Polytechnic, Jalingo.

Previous Reductions: In 2024, fees for the polytechnic had already been reviewed downward to approximately ₦12,000.

Comparison with Other Institutions: At Taraba State University (TSU), fees were previously pegged at ₦35,000 following the governor's 50% slash directive.

Strategic Goal: These measures align with Governor Kefas’s Five-Point Agenda, which prioritizes education as a cornerstone for state development and human capital growth.

The reduction at the polytechnic is one of several transformative policies currently active in the state's education sector:

Free Basic Education: The government maintains a policy of free and compulsory education for all primary and secondary school students.

Infrastructure Upgrades: The 2025 and 2026 budgets prioritize the construction of 60 new model schools and the rehabilitation of dilapidated campus structures, including female hostels.

Bursaries and Scholarships: Recent approvals include over ₦11 million for scholarship allowances to Taraba State students at the Nigerian Law School.

Parents and guardians have been advised to verify these new fee structures directly with the institution's bursary to ensure they are not overcharged by third parties.
