OGITECH Moves to Strengthen Research and Publication Standards as Rector Warns Against Academic Fraud

The Rector of Ogun State Institute of Technology, OGITECH, Dr. Abiodun Oluseye, has charged lecturers of the institution to uphold integrity and excellence in academic research, writing, and publication.  

He gave the charge on Monday, 31st August 2026, at the Prince Dapo Twins Theater Lecture Hall during a workshop organised by the School of Pure and Applied Sciences, SPAS, for teaching staff. The workshop was themed, “Academic Paper Writing and Publication and Criteria for Promotion.”  

The Rector emphasised that research should not be treated as a mere formality for promotion but as a genuine contribution to the global body of knowledge.  

He described writing as a tool for documenting innovation and publication as the primary outlet for solving practical life problems. Dr. Oluseye condemned the practice of publishing without conducting rigorous research, labeling it “academic fraud.” He urged participants to use the workshop to revolutionise the research culture at OGITECH and strengthen their research and writing skills.  

In his welcome address, the convener and Dean of SPAS, Dr. Olayode Fatoki, expressed gratitude to the Rector for his support in making the workshop a reality. He encouraged participants to engage in robust interactions to strengthen the institution’s overall research output and to actively engage with resource persons to improve the quality of research at OGITECH.  

Delivering a paper on “Academic Paper Writing for Publication and Criteria for Promotion,” Dr. Ezekiel Kadejo Ojo, Associate Professor of Industrial Mathematics and Head of the Department of Mathematics, Lagos State University of Education, Oto/Ijanikin, emphasised the need for lecturers to produce well-structured, relevant, and high-quality academic papers while maintaining transparency and integrity in research.  

Also speaking, Barrister Timothy Oluwalogbon Ogunseye, Chief Lecturer in the Department of Banking and Finance, Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro, addressed participants on “Criteria for the Promotion of Academic Staff in the Polytechnic System.” He highlighted the importance of understanding and meeting promotion requirements, describing professional advancement as a key component of career development within the polytechnic system.  

In his vote of thanks, the Chairman of the Workshop Organising Committee and Dean, School of Part-Time Studies, Dr. Sewanu Bankole, appreciated the invited dignitaries and resource persons for their contributions. He urged participants to apply the knowledge gained to improve their academic writing, research, and publication.  

The workshop was attended by Deans, Directors, Heads of Departments, and other teaching staff of the institution.
