Historic Moment for UNICAL as 1st Female SUG President Honored at Women's Voice and Leadership Project Closeout Ceremony

The Students Union Government (SUG) of the University of Calabar (UNICAL) is proud to announce that its first female President, H.E. Comr. Blessing Alims, was honored at the closeout ceremony for the Women's Voice and Leadership (WVL) Nigeria Project.

The Students Union Government (SUG) of the University of Calabar (UNICAL) is proud to announce that its first female President, H.E. Comr. Blessing Alims, was honored at the closeout ceremony for the Women's Voice and Leadership (WVL) Nigeria Project. The event took place at the Calabar International Convention Center (CICC) in collaboration with Global Affairs Canada, ActionAid Nigeria, and Gender and Development Action (GADA) as an implementing partner.

The five-year WVL Nigeria Project, funded by Global Affairs Canada, aimed to tackle barriers to gender equality and empower women and girls through financial and technical resources. The project supported local feminist and women's rights organizations in Nigeria, addressing challenges in policy, legislation, service provision, and harmful social beliefs and practices.

As a beneficiary of the project, Comr. Blessing Alims was invited to deliver a goodwill message at the ceremony. She expressed her gratitude to the organizers and emphasized the importance of empowering women and girls in Nigeria.

"This project has been a game-changer for many women and girls in Nigeria, including myself, and I am proud to be part of a generation of women who are breaking barriers and shaping the future of our country," said Comr. Blessing Alims.
