House of Representatives Committee Applauds LASU as Model for Digital Integrity
The Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo, was commended as Nigeria’s most digitally advanced and integrity-driven institution by members of the House of Representatives Ad-hoc Committee on Certificate Racketeering during a working visit on Wednesday, October 15, 2025.

The delegation, led by Chairman Hon. Abubakar H. Fulata, visited to interface with the University Management on measures adopted to curb certificate and admission racketeering in Nigerian tertiary institutions.
LASU's Digital Strategy Against Racketeering
Representing the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ibiyemi Ibilola Olatunji-Bello, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics), Professor Oseni Taiwo Afisi, welcomed the lawmakers and highlighted LASU's distinction in fighting fraud through comprehensive digitalization.
Fully Automated Processes: LASU's academic processes, from admission to certificate issuance, are fully digitalized and transparent, making manipulation or falsification "virtually impossible".
Instant Verification: University certificates bear a unique QR code that allows for instant verification anywhere in the world, guaranteeing authenticity and eliminating forgery.
Layered Security: The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Professor Oluwatoyin Enikuomehin, added that LASU enforces the mandatory use of National Identification Numbers (NIN) in student registration for additional identity verification.
NYSC Integration: The University's integration with the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) portal ensures that only verified graduates are processed for certificate issuance.

High Integrity and Disciplinary Measures
The University Registrar, Mr. Emmanuel A. FANU, briefed the Committee on LASU’s zero-tolerance policy towards any staff or student involved in fraudulent activities. He stated that all reported cases are handled through appropriate legal and disciplinary channels to preserve the institution’s reputation for integrity.
The Vice-Chancellor also reported an impressive 98% success rate in the accreditation exercise from 2023 to date, reflecting adherence to best academic and administrative standards.
Committee's Verdict
Members of the Ad-hoc Committee applauded LASU’s cutting-edge verification system and robust digital frameworks, describing the institution as:
"A model for other Nigerian institutions".
"One of the most credible universities in West Africa".

Chairman Hon. Abubakar Fulata lauded LASU’s leadership and reaffirmed the House’s commitment to eradicating certificate racketeering. The Committee demonstrated its confidence by conducting a live test of a sample certificate, which was successfully verified through the University’s QR authentication platform. LASU pledged its unwavering support for the Committee's mission, assuring continued efforts to champion reforms that strengthen the credibility of Nigerian certificates.
