ICAN Seeks Stronger Partnership with National Open University of Nigeria
She commended NOUN’s efforts in preparing accounting students for professional careers, but highlighted the need for NOUN to secure ICAN accreditation to provide its accounting graduates with necessary exemptions in ICAN exams.
The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) is working to strengthen its collaboration with the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN). This was revealed during a courtesy visit by the Chairman of ICAN's Kaduna District Society, Mrs. Mary Amuyedo Temitope, to the Directors of NOUN's Kaduna Study Centre and Centre for Human Resource Development (CHRD).
Mrs. Temitope, who is also a Deputy Bursar at NOUN, expressed the institute's interest in reinforcing ties with the university, particularly in the training of accounting students. She commended NOUN’s efforts in preparing accounting students for professional careers, but highlighted the need for NOUN to secure ICAN accreditation to provide its accounting graduates with necessary exemptions in ICAN exams.
Temitope also proposed a collaboration to encourage NOUN accounting students to register for the Accounting Technician Scheme (ATS) from their first year, offering a quicker path to becoming Chartered Accountants before graduation.
The delegation was received by Mrs. Fatima Yakubu, Principal Assistant Registrar at the Kaduna Study Centre, and Mr. Aminu Umar, Director of CHRD, both of whom appreciated ICAN's efforts and assured that the proposals would be conveyed to the appropriate authorities for consideration.
