Information directorate key to achieving our goals, says FULafia V-C

The Vice-Chancellor, Federal University of Lafia (FULafia), Prof. Shehu Abdul Rahman, said that the Directorate of Information and Public Relations plays a crucial in the process of achieving the goals, policies and programmes of the University.

Abdul Rahman stated this when he declared open a two-day training programme organised for the staff of the directorate which took place at the old Senate Chamber, Permanent Site Campus of the University. 

Represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Research and Partnerships, Prof. Samaila Usman Dakyes, the vice-chancellor said staff training and development were the surest way to enhance productivity and effective service delivery. 

He said the training of staff of the Information and Public Relations Directorate became necessary in view of the roles it played in shaping and maintaining a positive image for the University.

Abdul Rahman said: "Through the Public Relations Directorate our University can highlight our academic excellence, research breakthroughs, community service activities and students’ success stories.”

He commended the Staff Productivity Promotion Unit for the choice of the calibre of resource persons for the training, saying they were experienced persons drawn from both the private and public sectors. 

Abdul Rahman admonished the participants to pay attention to what they would be taught, calling on them to deploy their skills for managing the image of the University. 

The two-day training covered areas including news writing, sub-editing, house style, reverse image search, and the social media world: effective strategies for promoting universities. 

The resource persons were Idris Bello Danazumi, the Chief Executive Officer of IDMB Enterprises, a former chief sub-editor and assistant editor, of Nigerian Standard Newspaper and Head of Quality control, DailyTrust Newspapers, and Dr Habib Yakoob, Director of Information and University Relations, University of Abuja.
