The 2nd Edition of the Rector's Cup at Isa Mustapha Agwai I Polytechnic, Lafia, launched today, aimed at uniting the community and discovering emerging talents for future competitions.
The 2nd Edition of the Rector's Cup at Isa Mustapha Agwai I Polytechnic, Lafia, officially began today, marking another significant chapter in the institution's sporting tradition. This year's event, championed by the Polytechnic's Rector, Dr. Nurudeen Mu'azu Maitata, aims to foster unity within the Polytechnic community and identify emerging talents for the upcoming Nigerian Polytechnics Games Association (NIPOGA) competitions.
The opening ceremony saw strong support from various dignitaries. Ja'afaru Ango, Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, praised Dr. Maitata for his initiative in organizing the event. He encouraged participants to excel and represent their institution proudly.

Similarly, Ibrahim Uthman Angbolo, State Commissioner for Information, Culture, and Tourism, highlighted the importance of sports in community building. He reminded participants of the age-old adage, "All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy," urging them to embrace the competitive spirit while maintaining camaraderie.

In his address, Rector Dr. Maitata emphasized the event's dual purpose: to unite the Polytechnic community and scout for talented individuals who could contribute to the institution's success in future competitions. He also extended his gratitude to Governor Abdullahi Sule for his unwavering support to the Polytechnic.
Dr. Yakubu Ahmed Ubangari, Director-General of the Nasarawa State Market Management Bureau, officially declared the event open. He lauded the Rector’s commitment to sports and called for improved sporting facilities at the Polytechnic.

Dr. Timothy Allu, Chairman of the IMAP Sports Advisory Committee, expressed his deep appreciation for the Rector’s dedication to sports development. He underscored that the Rector's Cup is an annual event designed to nurture students' talents and prepare them for the NIPOGA outings.
The competition began with an exciting match, where Egah Rachel, wearing jersey number 5 from the School of Administration and Business Studies (Public Administration ND 2), scored the first goal against the School of Communication Technology, leading to a 2-0 victory.
The Rector's Cup promises to be a memorable event, showcasing the athletic talents of IMAP students and reinforcing the sense of community within the institution.
